Here’s what you can expect at regular dental visits at Premier Dental in Clyde, OH
Digital X-rays
At Premier Dental, we take X-rays at least once a year to help us keep a close eye on your oral health. We use safe and fast digital X-rays. These images give us a clear picture of your teeth, jaw, and the areas we can’t see during a regular exam. X-rays help us spot problems early, such as cavities, infections, bone loss, or issues with the roots of your teeth.
Oral Cancer Screening
Your health is important to us, which is why we include an oral cancer screening during your regular checkup. This screening only takes a few minutes and is completely painless.
Dr. Kuehner will carefully check your mouth, lips, tongue, cheeks, and throat for any unusual signs. He looks for red or white patches, sores that don’t heal, or lumps. Early detection of oral cancer can save lives, and we’re here to ensure you stay as healthy as possible.
Gum Disease Screening
Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile. That’s why we always check for signs of gum disease during your visit. We’ll use a special tool to gently measure the spaces, called gum pockets, between your teeth and gums.
If these pockets are too deep, it may be a sign of gum disease. We’ll also check for bleeding, swelling, or redness. If we find anything concerning, we’ll talk to you about treatment options to get your gums back on track.
Prophylaxis (Dental Cleaning)
Before the cleaning starts, our dental hygienist will look inside your mouth. They use a small mirror to check your teeth and gums for signs of problems, like cavities or gum disease.
Next, the hygienist uses special tools to gently remove plaque and tartar from around your teeth and along the gumline. Plaque is a sticky layer of bacteria, and tartar is hardened plaque that can’t be removed with regular brushing at home.
Once your teeth are free of plaque and tartar, the hygienist will brush them with a special gritty toothpaste using a high-powered electric toothbrush. This helps scrub your teeth and remove any leftover buildup.
The hygienist will then floss between your teeth to remove any food or plaque left behind. They can also check to make sure your gums are healthy and not bleeding too much. You’ll be given water or a rinse to swish around your mouth to wash away any remaining debris.
Sometimes, a fluoride treatment is applied at the end of the cleaning. Fluoride helps strengthen your teeth and protect them from cavities. It’s usually painted on your teeth or placed in a tray that fits in your mouth. After these steps, your teeth will feel clean and smooth.
Dental Exam
After your dental cleaning, Dr. Kuehner will carefully examine your mouth to check your overall oral health. He will look at your teeth, gums, and jaw to spot any signs of problems like cavities, gum disease, or worn-down teeth. If we took digital X-rays during your visit, he’ll also review them to see what’s happening below the surface. He can find problems with the tooth roots, bone levels, or hidden decay.
You can also use this time to talk to Dr. Kuehner about your dental concerns. If you have tooth pain, questions about your teeth, or want to improve your smile, he’ll listen and help you find the right solution. This open conversation helps make sure you get the care you need and feel confident about your oral health.
